“Going Deeper with Jesus Christ”: Catechetical Study Series on the Gospel of Luke at the Spiritual Center of the Metropolis of Demetrias and Almyros (October 2024)

During the first session of the Bishop’s Teachings on October 20, 2024, His Eminence, Metropolitan Ignatios of Demetrias and Almyros, reflected on the exemplary ten-year partnership between the Metropolis and Agape. He introduced the participants to the study material “Going Deeper with Jesus Christ”—a product of this collaboration—and the “Jesus Film”, excerpts of which will be shown at each session to deepen the exploration of each section of the study.

As His Eminence highlighted, the film closely follows the Gospel of Luke and is considered one of the most accurate and historically reliable portrayals of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. A longstanding initiative is in place to distribute the film—along with the New Testament—to every household in the Metropolis.

His Eminence also encouraged personal study, reminding participants: “The Holy Bible is meant to be read and studied, not merely displayed on our home altars.”

Finally, he presented the “Going Deeper with Jesus Christ” material (distributed to all participants), which will serve as a guide for studying the Gospel of Luke. He emphasized the value of Patristic texts that enrich the Biblical readings, the importance of interactive discussion topics, and the essential role of personal reflection and practical application of the lessons discussed. He stressed that it is important not only to recognize what resonates with us or the new perspectives gained about person and work of Jesus Christ, but also to consider how these insights can be applied in our lives and shared with those around us.
