{"id":2924,"date":"2021-09-23T17:37:18","date_gmt":"2021-09-23T14:37:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/agape.gr\/event-the-secularization-of-state-and-society-and-the-witness-of-the-church\/"},"modified":"2024-11-13T18:19:57","modified_gmt":"2024-11-13T16:19:57","slug":"event-the-secularization-of-state-and-society-and-the-witness-of-the-church","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agape.gr\/en\/event-the-secularization-of-state-and-society-and-the-witness-of-the-church\/","title":{"rendered":"Event: \u201cThe Secularization of State and Society and the Witness of the Church\u201d (September 2021)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As part of the Greece 2021 Committee events, and with the support of Agape, the Academy of Theological Studies of Volos and the Holy Metropolis of Demetrias organized the Third Round Table in the series <em>Orthodoxy and \u2018Others\u2019 in Greece 2040,<\/em> with the topic: \u201cThe Secularization of State and Society and the Witness of the Church.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event, moderated by Metropolitan Ignatios of Demetrias (Chair of the Academy\u2019s Board and Coordinator of the Working Group <em>Orthodoxy and \u2018Others\u2019 in Greece 2040<\/em>), took place on Monday, September 21, 2021, at the Makedonia Palace Hotel in Thessaloniki. Distinguished speakers, including Fr. Theodosios Martzouchos (Theologian and Clergyman of the Holy Metropolis of Preveza), Dr. Aris Stylianou (Chair and Professor of the Department of Political Science at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), Prof. Grace Davie (Professor of Sociology at the University of Exeter, UK), and Mr. Pantelis Kalaitzidis (Director of the Academy of Theological Studies of Volos and Board Member of the European Academy of Religion), shared their perspectives on the Church\u2019s role and its relationship with the State in an era of increasing secularization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two previous events in this series took place in Athens and Volos, respectively, with the themes: \u201cOurselves and the Others: Facts and Perspectives on Hellenism and Orthodoxy\u201d and \u201cThe Formation of Modern Greek Identity in Today\u2019s and Tomorrow\u2019s Greece.\u201d The fourth and final event will be held on Monday, September 27, in Alexandroupolis, on the topic: \u201cIslam in Greece and Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Metropolitan Ignatios, the aim of these events is to compile a white paper that captures the perspectives and proposals of institutional bodies, special interest groups, internationally respected figures, and the plenary session of the National Committee.
